Lonetree Jacket + Toaster Sweater

I’m thrilled to be apart of  the Indiesew Fall/Winter 2016 Blog Tour this year! It is soo good! The pattern line up includes so many great pieces that you can mix and match into several different outfit options. Indiesew has taken it one step further with a hand picked fabric collection to go along with these fabulous patterns.

I got to pick my favorite patterns and fabric to sew up a few pieces from the new Fall / Winter collection. I chose the Lonetree Jacket by Allie Olsen and the Toaster Sweater #2 by Sew House Seven.

Let’s chat about this jacket first, shall we?

Utility jackets are a wardrobe staple for me. In fact, I have an army green one I bought like 7 years ago and still wear all time… until the Lonetree Jacket came along! (It was about time for an update!). I was instantly drawn to this sienna stretch twill for it’s reddish brown color. It reads 70’s to me, and I like that it’s a little different too. It was an absolute dream to work with, really stable, and so perfect for this jacket.

This pattern! The Lonetree Jacket pattern is Allie Olsen’s (co-founder of Indiesew) first pattern, and she knocked it out of the park. The whole jacket was really so seamless to put together. Nothing was confusing or hard to understand. Allie really walks you through each step and detail, I was really impressed with her directions and technique.

The fit is fabulous. I made a size small and didn’t make any alterations to the original pattern. I really love the length too, hitting just right at my hips. My other utility jacket I purchased a few years ago is a little loose and bulky, and I really like how this pattern has a closer fit, and you can adjust how fitted you want your jacket to be by adjusting the cording in the waist casing. (This probably comes with sewing though too, everything always fits better when you make it yourself!). Indiesew has also provided a great blog post all about how to fit this jacket if you’re interested!

This pattern has a few different options: the jacket as shown, a vest and an optional hood. (I need a vest next!).

I sewed this up in three nights, plus an extra night for cutting. I really like to break up cutting and sewing into separate nights for bigger projects. I was impressed at how quickly it came together.

If you’re thinking about making a coat or jacket for this season, this needs to be at the top of your list! I’m so happy with my new utility jacket.

I purchased all my notions (snaps, cording, cord stop, and thread) at Joann. I purchased my zipper from thezipperlady.com. Zipperstop is a good source too.

If you don’t want to go through the trouble to find all these supplies, and make sure they match, Indiesew is also selling Lonetree jacket kits with army green twill fabric, zipper, snaps, cord stops and twill tape needed for this pattern.

I also got to sew up the Toaster Sweater #2 by Sew House Seven.

I used a really nice Heather Grey French Terry, and I’ve worn it several times since making it. This top is definitely going to be a staple item for me this fall and winter.

I didn’t make any adjustments to the original pattern. The length is a little short, but I’ve come to really love it. Most of the jeans I own are high waisted and this top works really well paired with them. I also love wearing it layered over a button down shirt. I have a few plaid shirts I’ve been wearing lately with my toaster on top, and I love the look. I want to try tucking it into a skirt too, so many great options!

The side vent adds a cool touch to the hemline on this version of the Toaster Sweater. It’s my favorite feature of this top.

The neckline is perfect too, it’s like a turtleneck/cowl mashup. It’s so cozy to wear, I really just want to make like 5 more versions of this sweater and live in them until spring. Next time I will definitely try adding a few more inches to my hemline though.

I sewed this one up in one night, plus one night for cutting. It’s super quick to sew up, and the directions are great too. Really easy. I couldn’t be happier with both of these garments.

I love the casual, cool vibe this new collection gives off. I really want to try sewing up the Chi-Town Chinos, and the Bonn Shirt too, also part of this new collection. Indiesew has done it again, another fabulous collection my friends!
