Hello! Happy Fall!
Almost every year I make a fall top, and it’s usually plaid. This year I decided to make the Raida Blouse by Madswick Studios. I love the feminine ruffle detail, and the big sleeves with the pleated detail on the wrist. I used my Baby Lock Brilliant sewing machine for most of the top, and my Baby Lock Celebrate for all of the seam finishes. Love love my Baby Lock machines.
I sewed up view A with long sleeves. I love the button placket detail that adds a lot of fun interest and dressing options. Wear it tucked in, half tucked in, untucked, etc. I sewed up a size 2, and I think I would size down one size next time around. I love the oversized fit of the bodice, but I think one size down might suite me better.
My fabric is from my local Hobby Lobby, it’s called Brown Homespun Plaid Cotton. I really love their homespun fabrics. Super affordable and fun to sew with. This is my second project I’ve made using their homespun fabrics.
If you decide to use a plaid fabric, I would recommend buying a little extra from what the pattern calls for so you can pattern match your pieces. Take your time cutting out your project and really think through where pieces will meet and need to match! Think twice, cut once! 🙂

This top was really fun to put together. It took me about two weeks finding time here and there to work on a few steps as time allowed. I also did a hand sewn finish on the collar and sleeve cuffs, which took a little more time too. I love being able to have a project going, but not feeling rushed to finish it. I’m trying to enjoy the process a bit more.

I made a really great reel showing more of the process of this top, you can find it on my instagram account @thesaraproject_.

I hope this inspires you to do a little fall sewing of your own! I think I need to make a round up of all my fall projects I’ve made over the years! Happy sewing, friends!
