My first official make of 2024! I’ve had my eye on the Lane Pants since their first debut, and couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. This pattern was pretty straight forward to sew with really great instructions. I made the size 0, but cut out the top of the waist at a size 2 for added high waistedness. In the end I should have just cut out a size 0. My measurements lined up with size 2 but I didn’t want them to be too oversized on me. I think I would slightly shorten the rise of the size 0 just a little on my next go. I also shortened the leg length by 2 1/2″ as the pattern is designed for 5′ 7″, and I’m about 5′ 4.5″. Overall, I really do love them!

My fabric is from Joann- it’s a rayon and linen blend linked here. I wanted them to have a drapey-er, more relaxed look. I was worried the rayon component would make them a little too drapey but it’s just right. This fabric has a nice weight to it as well. I will say, sewing with a rayon blend makes the fabric a little more finicky and tricker to top stitch. I used this wash away wonder tape along the cargo pocket side and bottom edges to keep it in place before sewing down the pocket. Worked like a charm. Wash away wonder tape is always good to have in your back pocket for situations like these.

My Baby Lock machines handled this project like the champs they always are. I can’t wait to wear these not only now but in the future- I think they are going to be a summer staple for me. I might try making a non-cargo pocket version in a light weight denim based off a Damson Madder version. I also need to make Sydney’s quilted vest pattern. So much to sew and not enough time y’all.
