Seamly 2016 Summer Collection Blog Tour

I’m so excited to be apart of another Blog Tour, this time for Indie Sew, in collaboration with Seamly! Each season, Indie Sew comes out with a great fabric bundle. For their summer collection, they’ve teamed up with Seamly and created patterns based off of their ready wear items. There’s three great basics in the collection: the Vallynne Tank, Basic Tee, and the Wrapped Cardigan

For the tour, I made a Basic Tee in a light grey knit and the Wrapped Cardigan in an AGF knit by April Rhodes. Indie Sew has a whole blog post about which fabrics to use for these patterns.

First up, my Wrapped Cardigan:

You guys, I’m obsessed. Along with my Wrapped Cardigan, I’m wearing my Basic Tee and Birkin Flares. My tassel necklace is from Purpose Jewelry.

The Wrapped Cardigan is a quick make, and it’s so fun to wear! I just love it. I’m excited to bring it along all summer for those late nights outside, and I’ll be wearing this well into the Fall and Winter too. There’s also a sleeveless version that is adorable layered over a tee or tank. It’s such a versatile pattern, great for every season.

Next, the Basic Tee:

My tassel bracelet is also from Purpose Jewelry.

Again, I’m obsessed. This is my favorite knit tee I’ve made so far. I usually stay away from sewing basics, but now I’m realizing that they are a great addition to my wardrobe. I’ve worn this tee dressed up with a skirt for church, and dressed down with skinny jeans and sandals for running errands. Sometimes I even sleep in it. It’s the best. I’m planning on making more when I can find some time. I think it would be cool with two different colors: one for the shirt, and one for the sleeves, pocket and neck band…

So good.

Make sure to follow along with the blog tour to get some great ideas for using this new pattern collection!

Birkin Flares by Baste + Gather

I was chosen to be apart of the Birkin Flares tester group, and let me just say, you NEED this pattern! I have never made jeans before. Lauren Dahl, the creator of these fab jeans (and Baste + Gather) is a genius I tell you. This pattern is put together so well, the steps are very clear with great illustrations, and JEAAANSS! You can do it! They really aren’t very hard at all. I found the whole process very smooth and simple to understand. Also, I’m officially obsessed with topstitching. There’s something so satisfying about it (when you get it right). I can’t believe I made jeans.

The fit is amazing. I did not make a muslin, and instead just basted my legs together, and from there took them in so the fit was just perfect. I made the size 25, and took them in a little. I made my pockets from the size 26 so they would be a tad bit bigger.

Disclaimer: I do not wear flared jeans. Until now. I love the shape of the legs, and find them super flattering. Plus, flares are super trendy right now and making a huge comeback.

I had so much fun being apart of this tester group. This has been my first pattern testing experience, and it was so fun sewing along with other women in our Facebook group, and also being able to ask Lauren any questions I had while going through the pattern. Special thanks to Lauren for giving me this great opportunity.

My bell sleeve top is made by me, and I’m currently working on a tutorial for next week. If you can’t tell, I’m really feeling this 70’s comeback thing going on this season. Gimme all the flares.

You can purchase the pattern here.
