Hey guys! I’m soo excited to share this next project with you. It’s called the Marshmallow Dress by Ana Valls of Cocowawa Crafts. (Available in both English & Spanish!). This dress is as sweet as it’s name. This is Ana’s first ever pattern, and she did a great job! I love the fit of this dress, and the fun details like the button band going down the back, and the feminine ruffle along the bottom hem. I wasn’t quite sure how this dress would suit me going into this project, and I couldn’t be happier! I love it so so much.
The fabric I used is called Window Dressing in Ocean/Fuchsia also from Cocowawa Crafts, by Cloud 9. I love this fabric! I want to buy all the other colors this fabric comes in. I love that it works for winter, but I can’t wait to wear it in the spring and summer too. It’s a really versatile pattern, and the fabric too! For my buttons, I used these super cool wooden buttons from Arrow Mountain.
Every time I choose a fabric in a pattern or plaid I always get a little nervous to cut it out. I spend double the amount of time cutting out each piece, trying to get the pattern to match as best I can. This dress was a success! Yay for perfect matching! I don’t know if my next patterned project will be so lucky!
I did make a few adjustments to the original pattern. I brought the neckline/shoulder pieces in at 1/2″on the front dress pattern piece, and matched it up to the back piece so the should seams would be the same length across. I like a closer fitting neckline, just a personal preference. I brought in the shoulder/armscye edge by 1/4″. I also cut out one size smaller than what my measurements were according the pattern. I noticed that the dress has a really loose fit, and I wanted mine to have a slightly closer fit. You’ll notice in comparison to the original pattern, that mine is a bit longer too, I added 2 1/2″ in length to the dress front and back pieces. It couldn’t be more perfect!
Thank you for creating such a fun pattern Ana! You can get your Marshmallow dress pattern here! Happy sewing!
So cute 😀

Love this dress on you Sara – that fabric is gorgeous! The style reminds me of a dress I wore to rags back in the late ’60’s 🙂 I guess that makes it “retro”? 🙂 Beautiful and comfortable too.
