I’m so excited to share this dress with you all (that I made all the way back in MAY!) that I created for JOANN’s fall mailer that was recently sent out country wide. I got to choose a fabric from their fall 2020 release and I fell in love with this dalmation print; it’s fun but still feels neutral. This dress is so comfortable as well as stylish, I can see why there is so much hype for this pattern. It’s a real winner for me!
I chose this really pretty neutral dalmatian print poly crepe fabric and paired it with the recently trending McCall’s M7969 dress pattern. This fabric has really great drape to it and is very similar if not the same to my crane dress I made last fall. I added a gathered ruffle to the bottom of the dress and I raised the neckline for modesty. I am thrilled with how it turned out! The fit is awesome and I can’t get enough of these sleeves!!
Here are the exact alterations I made:
I added 3.5″ in width to the bottom of the front bodice and drew a line from that point up to the top of the neckline. This gives you a higher neckline. The wrap style neckline lays really nice and doesn’t require any snaps or pins to keep it closed. I also added 3.5″ in length to the bias binding pattern piece.
For the skirt, I made the length of the top part of the skirt 23.5″ long with the original width and the bottom skirt panel is 12.5″ long by 34.5″ wide. I sewed this piece to the top skirt piece using the same technique the pattern suggests using for the main skirt piece.
